Windows 10 asking for minimum 6 digit pin

lx07, your comments are meaningless to me, because nothing you suggest corrects the problem.

Set the minimum requirements to 4 digits or not configured. Create a new local account. See if you can assign a 4 digit PIN to the new local account. If you actually try @lx07's advice and remove the PIN from your account (not just try to change it), and create a new PIN and the new account only requires 4 digits, and you account requires 6 digits, then you know it is a problem with your account.

I just tried it on my Windows 10 Pro 17134.228. Changed the minimum PIN requirement to 6 digits. Changed my PIN from one 4 digit PIN to another 4 digit PIN. Then I actually removed the PIN, and when creating a new one, it required 6 digits. Then I changed the PIN requirements to not configured. Tried to change the PIN, it would only take a 6 digit PIN. But, when I removed the PIN from the account and created a new PIN, it allowed 4 digits again.

I can only suggest what I tested.

There is definitely a problem with group policy being ignored in my case. The group policy doesn't apply until PIN is deleted and recreated as new and this is NOT what the description says in gpedit.

Your problem may be different but you have to try things and see. Or at least describe it.

Perhaps someone else is in the same situation - or perhaps they know someone who is in the same situation - and can you imagine if all those people who were in the same situation walked into the shrink and said (etc etc)

IDK man - there is certainly a problem here but you have to be specific and then perhaps we can pin it down.

Yes - that is what I found exactly. There might be something changing peoples PIN minimum requirement to 6 as it is odd 2 people report the same issue in one day.

Well, Commander and lx07, your testing proved helpful, and may indeed have pinned it down (I'll get my coat, too). Removing the current PIN and then replacing it with a new 4-digit PIN does work. But for some reason my old 4-digit PIN doesn't work. Maybe that's due to some new pattern requirement, but there was no repeating delta, and the PIN has been in use for a year. Also, there is no PIN retention or change policy in place. All three computers used the same PIN, and all three barfed it up within hours of each other. Like I said before, customers need to start coming first with Microsoft.

10 enterprise here logs into a local account;
over a year ago a message appeared at login, and I was using a 4 digit pin since day one of win10, that said something, forget exacts.. recommended changing pin to 6 digit so it could be encrypted for added protection.
