Windows 10 asking for minimum 6 digit pin

As of a few days ago, the gpedit complexity settings no longer work. The PIN is now required to be 6 digits, period. Why Microsoft made this change escapes me, and an explanation would be in order. In general, however, the company needs to pay much more attention to what customers want, not what the developers think they need. And this change to the PIN policy needs to be rolled back to what it was before.

Did you try deleting and re-adding the PIN? I found that was required and then after it worked OK.

Obviously if your company (or school or whatever) policies are overriding that then you can't do much about it.

I did also notice that signing up to a Microsoft account from different countries has different password requirements. I don't want to go into too much pointless detail but the account I have in UAE is far less strict when it comes to password length/complexity than the one I have in in the US. Whether this is relevant to you idk as you didn't say if you are having a problem with a MS account, a school account or an employer account.

This is a private computer, not a part of an organization, and I am the administrator. Yes, I have tried to change the PIN. In fact, on all 3 of my computers that use PINs, I was required to change the PIN in order to log in with it. Absolutely nothing at all that I can set changes the new requirement for 6 digits.

Like I said - remove it. Then re-add it and the new policy should take effect.

I found that worked for me but my problem was opposite - changing 4 to 6 not 6 to 4.

I did try in both directions and it seemed to act the same.

I'm only guessing here though - I can only tell you what I found works for me - perhaps there is another cause.

What edition are you using? Single language, Home, Pro, Education, Enterprise?

Like I said, I have tried this multiple times. When did you last try? I'll wager that if you attempt to enter a new 4-digit PIN today, you'll be out of luck.

I'm using Pro for Workstations. I know that question wasn't aimed at me but I'm pretty sure there is a bug here - gpedit should do what it says and it doesn't. Perhaps the edition counts...

Who are you talking to? I can enter a 4 long PIN.

I can enter a 4 long PIN if I change gpedit to 6 unless I delete the PIN and re-add it. Likewise I can change the minimum back to 4 and it doesn't care until the PIN is deleted and re-entered.

Read the thread FFS or at least give us your findings if they are different.

It all begins at login with something like, "There seems to be a problem with your account, and we can't find your PIN. You will need to reset your PIN here..." This is a truly outrageous "bug".
