    Obtain forgotten PC password

I have my PC set to boot without typing my password. Now it seems I've forgotten what it was as I was trying to connect from a old Mac to my PC but it rejects what I thought was my password. Is there a simple way to find it?

    Samuria,
There isn't a place for Password as described in the tutorial. Is my login password the same as my Microsoft Account?

"I was trying to connect from a old Mac to my PC but it rejects what I thought was my password. ...."

How ? Over network or via remote software, like Teamviewer ?

"Is my login password the same as my Microsoft Account?"

Yes, if Admin is a MS account. No, if Local account unless MS email is specified. Does auto-login now allow you to boot PC, as usual, independent of the MAC ?

You can change the current/no password and options using Win+R then enter netplwiz with elevated admin account. Enable acct by using Options 1 or 2 in this tute (don't forget to disable again when finished) -

I was using the iMac's "Finder / Go / Connect to Server". It asks for a smb//: (PC server 192.168. etc). Found the PCs IPv4 using ipconfig. Hit "Enter". The Mac found the PCs IP address & prompted for username & password. It rejects when I type what I thought was the correct password. Tried several combos & was never able to get into my PCs shared folders.

    I am the PC administrator.

I found another solution to transferring data (love those 125Gb photo SD cards!) but now worry about my login password. I'll need to set my PC to "Password required" instead of auto login while on vacation.

You can do that in netplwiz but unless you know the current password, you'll need to do it with the elevated admin account. I just did that for someone I reinstalled Windows for and forgot the password she entered no more than half hr before ! Fortunately OS was Win10 Pro where it was easy to enable/disable elevated Admin. But for Home, you need to use the linked tutorial. Good Luck.

Thanks. I was aware of enabling / disabling password login using netplwiz. I'll try to do it with the elevated admin account.

If there isn't a password in the registry it must be a blank password as if there is a password it must be there

" Under Password for Administrator / Reset Password... Will resetting this password be the correct password to use to login Windows 10 if enabled in User Accounts?"

NO !! It looks like you accessed this by enabling elevated Admin then netplwiz. By default it does not have a password. So, if you changed it to add on, you better have written it down or not forgotten or you'll never be able to get it back. You want to either delete unnecessary users (I only have one, me) or to change or add password, highlight User and Properties to see your options.

PS; do not forget to disable elevated Admin when finished. Highlight Administrators, then Properties. There's a Disable option there (AFTER you change the password back to blank or make 100% sure you KNOW it !).

ALSO, re-post your User Accounts screenshot to incl all your accounts AND remove your personal info by crossing thru it.

I just tried this on 3 computers that all have Win10 Home. On none of them does the 'Administrators' show at top of the User Accounts list. It seems, at some point, you enabled the built-in admin and never disabled it. Or, did you ever name your Admin ? This may be why 'winaero' shows up on log-in screen. Is that normal ?
In Settings/Accounts/Your info post screenshot (cover personal email info). PS; your personal email info is still showing on your screenshots in 2 posts.

Since you don't have Pro, you can use this tute, Option Two to try to change Local acct -
