Cannot add pin after update - asks for old pin

I recently installed the following updates:

    1) Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803
    2) 2018-07 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4338832)

Before the update I had a pin set that I used to login with. After updating the login method reverted to normal password input.

In Settings -> Sign-in options, it does not give any indication I have a pin set. I have access to an 'Add' button when pressed asks for my current pin. Entering the correct pin closes the window, while an incorrect pin states the pin is incorrect.

Cannot add pin after update - asks for old pin-abc.png

Not sure what is going on but any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Danni

Have a read of this tutorial. I would think it should resolve matters.

Reset PIN for your Account in Windows 10

Just to be on really safe side I might create another Admin user, local, so you have a second method into PC.

    Hi Ken,

I am not trying to reset my PIN. I am trying to switch back to using my PIN instead of my password for login. But I cannot do so because there seems to be a bug in my setting which I have detailed in my original post.

My settings are saying I don't currently have a PIN, but when I try to add a PIN, it asks me to enter my existing PIN. Entering either a correct or incorrect PIN does nothing so I am unable to do anything. Attempting to reset the PIN just displays a prompt to reset the PIN in the sign in options, which only shows the "add" button...

Out of the two options given in the linked tutorial, I cannot apply the first because of the problem described above, and I cannot apply the second as the login is currently set to password and not pin, and as such, I have no option to reset the PIN there.

I googled as I sure you did. Found one article with several "Fixes" and then found a couple more at MS.

A couple say changing your password can help or changing from local to MS or vice versa. I'm posting for reference. Could be another member will have a sure fire fix.

Always hate dealing with MS passwords. Did you make alternate admin account for safety?

Have a read of the above. Maybe we get second opinion soon.

Thanks for the links, I appreciate it.

Changing my password didn't do anything. The only thing that seemed to have any effect was deleting the contents of:

    "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Ngc"

After deletion I was able to set a new PIN by clicking "Add" in the settings. However after creation the settings page still don't seem to register that a pin has been created, and still only displays the "Add" button. Unfortunately this still means I can't use the PIN functionality

Crap. Half a fix is no fix.

Have you shutdown, and hold the shift key down when you click shutdown.

Lets see after a boot what it says.
