Windows has imposed unwanted lock screen and need for password.

Version 1803 (OS Build 17134. 191) Upgraded from Win 7.

I first upgraded to 10 a few weeks ago and the lock screen and need to enter a password was not displayed.

After a few days I returned to Win 7.

Now, having re-upgraded to 10 again I have the very irritating lock screen etc. I want the system to bypass this and boot into the desktop.

    How may this be achieved?

Another idiosyncrasy is that the clock information at the right side of the taskbar is displayed with black characters ..... which blend nicely into the dark grey of the taskbar !

    What's causing that?

    Hello Syncopator,

You could use Option One in the tutorial below to have Windows 10 automatically sign in to an account at startup.

    Thank you Shawn.

I tried option One in that tutorial. At start up the lock screen is now bypassed but I am presented with two usernames, both me, and both of them needing me to enter credentials.

What might I have done wrong or misunderstood?

It sounds like you may not have entered your password correctly in netplwiz. If this is the case, then setting up netplwiz again using the correct password should sort this for you.

Yes Shawn, that was it. The system now boots into the desktop, albeit somewhat slowly.

Do you have any idea why the clock characters are black?

Did you use any 3rd party themes, skins, or programs that may have affected the text color?

    No I haven't.

I have just noticed that the names of open files on the desktop are also in black on the taskbar.

In that case, you might see if changing to one of the other "Windows Default Themes" may sort it.

I have no theme selected, just a simple background colour. That hasn't been changed at all.

Just adjusted the hue, but no change in taskbar characters.

As a test, does changing the theme sort the text color issue?

If it does, then you can change it back to a solid color background again afterwards to see if it the text color stays corrected or not.
