    Reset Worked

    Ken,

I reset the pc and "without my files." On setup it asked me for another account. I tried to skip it, but it forced me to create a new account. So I am eating my words as I have a new MS@outlook.com but this time I created my own password and have the password recorded. Can't i go to Netplwiz, uncheck the username, click apply, re-check the box, click apply, and remove the log-in account? Oh,I checked "Winver" and found that it set my OS back to 1709. All of which is fine with me.

Just curious...what kind of security programs does a real geek like you use on your pc?

And just the same, I am still downloading Windows 10 to a USB drive.

Thanks a million for what you did for me. You are fantastic as well as many other people on the TenForums.

    This tutorial with step 5

Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup

I use standard stuff, Norton as my main product. Quick daily scan with SuperantiSpyware. If suspecting something might throw in a scan with Malwarebytes.

I taught seniors for seven years, just finished last spring.

What I concentrated on was don't click on links or attachments in emails unless there is good context in email that says sender actually knows you. Lines like I thought you would like this or this is great should be avoided. Same for attachments.

Curiosity kills the cat. (Still) Invoices, voice mails, undelivered packages... all bait.

Yes you can get infected on web so keep browser up to date and stay out of the back alleys.

Yes, I've met a lot of very nice people on forum with a huge knowledge base they want to share.

    Glad your machine is up.

You may wish to look at a product like Macrium Reflect. Easier to restore a machine than rebuild.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

and yes you can do it.

The USB Win10 tool install crashed on me. Said it was an unknown error. Used a new Sans Disk 16 GB TDrive.
Yes, I do Macrum Reflect. My main pc, a 2009 desktop's HD began rattling a couple of years ago. Got a new HD PDQ, installed it, connected external HD and "restored" from my Macrum Reflect System Image. Good to go! Learned how to use MR from a Brit guy on YouTube...BriteTech? I have all of my 40 Gb of pics triple backed up. Some things I can still do, but a lot like in some of your tutorials blow me away at my age today. Wish I had lived in a larger city and was 20 years younger as I would have pay a pc shop to let me come and learn. What little I know is from geek newsletters, YouTube, and a few people on line in different Forums who don't mind sharing and have patience. A geek in Paris taught me how to set up PoE cameras and I learned enough to be dangerous. I have six cameras running. It was really just fun learning to do it. That was a great thing you did for the seniors. I thank you for that in addition to what you tried to teach me. I am saving your tutorial links in case I get older, faster, and can still read.
Thank you and your members again who help people in need.

You may see my name on the forums again asking some fool question.
    Best Wishes and Good Health!

"The USB Win10 tool install crashed on me. Said it was an unknown error."
--- I just saw that recently on a computer the user tried to do the same thing you are doing.
--- I don't recall how I found out what the issue was, but it turned out the USB flash drive needed to be formatted but it wasn't obvious up front or by what the unknown error meant.
--- I know when you start the process, you will be notified that everything on the USB flash drive will be removed or something like that.
--- However formatting the USB flash drive before starting the process is what worked for my friend.

With the USB flash drive plugged in, right click on the USB drive (E:) or whatever your drive letter is
--- In the menu that shows up, left-click Format
--- On the following screen, you will see Format options with Quick Format checked
--- Select Start and a Quick Format completes very quickly and it will inform you when it is ready to be used.
However on my friends computer I preferred to uncheck the Quick Format and go for the longer Format
--- I didn't actually know if it was a better idea but like I told my friend I don't see why it would hurt
--- The longer format took maybe 4-5 minutes but it didn't matter to me how long it would take
--- When that was finished, we restarted to process and it did complete successfully to install Windows 10 and he's in business.
--- Naturally I cannot say it's always the answer but please try it and find out if it will work for you.
