    lock screen

    Good afternoon.
I am currently using windows ten & on start up i used a pin to activate..
We are travelling for a while & i often just put my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down so I wanted an extra layer of security in hotels & accomodation when i do this as well as pin to start.
Yesterday, I managed to lock myself out, but then reset my microsoft password so I can get on laptop again, but now my pin to start has disappeared..
I really am dense when it comes to stuff like this & haven't a clue what i'm doing.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Under accounts in settings. The PIN or password to the machine is not going to make your machine any safer while traveling. Always use the Firewall, make sure your Antivirus is up to date, do not connect to public hotspots in cafe's or Internet Centers with your machine, never use a public to use device to do any email, banking, Social Media access. Keep your machine up to date. When leaving your machine in your room, try to lock it in the safe or just take it with you and make sure that it is covered under your Homeowners/Renter's policy.

    Thank you.
I am careful, I do my banking on my phone which also has antivirus as does the laptop.
I guess it's all I can do then.I just thought it would stop anyone accessing the laptop if it was left out in my room.
Some of these safes are hard to fit a laptop in, but i'll try.
    Thank you for your help.

It should only be asking for the PIN. You need to make sure that you are setup as a Local Account, not a Microsoft account. If you use the Microsoft Account to sign in, use Two Factor Authentication if always connecting to a network. If working offline more than online while traveling, use the Local Account.
