    Help sorting user account name?

Ok here is my dilemma. It may not be a dilemma at all so I’m looking to understand.

I usually sign in with my Microsoft account on all PCs. This creates a user folder with the name klepp for whatever reason. My username as per here ^ is klepp0906.

I’m trying to determine what Microsoft creates that folder name based on?

I’d like my user folder to have the same name as my username.

Trying to ascertain 1) how to change that username folder to match and 2) find out if it’s possible for Microsoft to create the username klepp0906 for my profile instead of klepp.

Is this something saved in the cloud and associated with my Microsoft account? If so can I change it?

Or does Microsoft try to use the prefix of your email but omit numbers for whatever reason? (If this is the case, I can live with it much easier)

    Case you can’t tell I’m a bit ocd :)

    Hi, please see

    ref. changing user folder name.

I would advise you to make sure you have a current disk image (As I hope you already have) before attempting this.

There seems no defined way to control what user folder name is created as far as I know.

Yep - at gym currently so didn’t get a chance to reply.

It appears Microsoft just takes the first 5 letters to create the folder.

I imagine I can go ahead and change it ala the method you posted above but without risking losing any settings or functionality, plus with Microsoft likely just creating a funky folder again on any fresh/new installs - it’s likely not worth dealing with.

My main pc will hopefully be imaged from now till the end of time, but my laptop and backup pc, not so much. And that just adds ANOTHER thing I’d have to do after each install in the future.

I’ll take Microsoft’s half baked silliness this time it’s looking like ><

Thank you for the reply :)

Good- some things are not worth the effort (or perhaps risk).
