Windows 10: Duplicate folders

    Duplicate folders

Why is there a duplicate folder of my desktop folder (stored on my main C Drive) in my User account? If I try to delete anything from the User/Desktop folder it also deletes it from the desktop folder stored on my main C Drive!
Is this User Folder necessary? Is it taking up ACTUAL space?

    Thanks

Each user has a desktop of their own. Windows stores each user's desktop in C:\Users\<username>\Desktop. That IS your desktop. What makes you think you have another one somewhere else? File Explorer?

When File Explorer shows the location as 'This PC > Desktop' your are actually looking at the contents of the Desktop folder in your User folder, It's just an alternative name for the same location - there is no 'duplicate', just an alternative name for the same thing.

Okay. I copied my Desktop file from the user Folder on to the C Drive, thinking that I could make the Desktop- C-Drive the default Folder, and get rid of the Desktop folder in the User Folder. So from what you said it sounds like the C-Drive-Desktop Folder is redundant. Is this the case? They just seem to mirror each other. I'd rather just have a single Desktop Folder in the C Drive, along with everything else. But, correct me if I'm wrong, that is not possible?

HI, if you want to start worrying about these things, there's
    C:\Users\Public\Desktop
    and
    C:\Users\Default\Desktop
    for example.

My point is that if you're not sure why these things are there, and what they represent, leave well alone, else you'll end up needing technical help to sort it out.

(Unless of course you have a disk image to restore- you are using disk imaging routinely, I hope? e.g. Macrium Reflect (free).... )

Also to consider, in File Explorer items on the left column above This PC such as Libraries and Quick Access may only be shortcuts to things in C:\Users\UserName\ and Folders there which are the actual storage.
