    accounts error

my MS account is xxx@compuserve.com. When booting my account appears and I am asked for my password. I enter same and my desktop appears and all operations are normal. For the last two weeks I have been getting popups saying there is a problem with my compuserve account. I go to settings-accounts and am asked for the password that goes with xxx@compuserve.com. When I enter same I receive a message saying my PW is not correct! How can that be? I try to reset PW and when I reach point where MS will email verification code, the code never arrives. I am puzzled.

    Hi pedsto

It is important to differentiate between the two accounts. One is your MS account and one is your compuserve accounts.

You didn't say which app is coughing up the popups, I'm thinking mail.

You may have the same ID for both accounts but the password for these two unique accounts and how your credentials are checked are unique done by two different companies.

It sounds like your MS password is okay when you sign in and you are using what I will call Microsoft password. Is that the same password you are entering when your are in Windows settings?

As to the compuserve account I would use a browser, navigate to compuserve.com and then sign in there. (Which seems to AOL)

This is possibly a spurious spam message from MS that has appeared in the last couple of days, ignore it, dismiss the message. The objective seems to be an MS unwanted 'feature' and the new look Outlook Mail.

Certainly don't sign on to any Account from such messages it could be Malware harvesting data, looks like yours might have been, or it was that stupid MS message that looked like a Malware popup.

Sign in separately the normal way to check Accounts to be safe.

    Accounts error

Yes, it might be two accounts but I am not sure. One pop up message is "Your Compuserve account settings are out of date" There is no indication as to who is sending the message but I go to AOL and cannot find anything to check or change. The password I use during boot ( I assume this is a MS p/w) works just fine but when I go to MS account settings, enter fix, and use the same password, it is rejected.

    if you go to

    accounts.microsoft.com

you should be able to verify your MS password. Very well is like Helmut said, a useless message from MS.

Have you applied all maintenance to your machine. Did you recently update to V1803?
