If you have a Microsoft account and used it when you were setting up Windows, try entering the password for that.

    Ben
Thank you, if I have a MS account, I do not access it and have no record of a password for it.

Bree, that's not my quote you have posted. I tried to tell him basically the same thing you told him. I think that is his response to my post.

    essenbe,

Thank you for your efforts. So everyone knows, after numerous attempts, finally accessed the device with a password from the hint! It isn't a combo I ever remember using and again, never needed it until this wknd's upgrade...must have used it when initially setting up the laptop when new in 2016??

After gaining entry, I was able to get the USB drive w/new password to come up while in the "Shift/Restart" utility screen and don't laugh too much, but somehow ended up with a dual login under the same Administrator name... This was a first, and my fault for making so many changes, which made it difficult to figuring out which created the issue!

Long story short, what appeared as a second account at boot up was a duplicate of my admin account and by simply changing the admin account name with just one number, the second password request just went away after a restart... Will leave that up to you experts! For whatever reason, it's still not responding to turning off the password feature and will not allow a system restore even with Win Def. turned off as suggested, but do have access to my secondary device!

    Thx again, S
