    No admin permissions

I have a problem regarding permissions on my Asus laptop, running windows 10 home. If for example wanting to run cmd as administrator I am prevented from doing so by this message : 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device'
To continue:'' enter an admin user name and password''- all fine you may say, except its the guest user name and password that are required. I enter that password which I know-but then get the message :'' The password for this account has expired'' so I can go no further.
I am admin and login as such, yet the laptop is treating the guest as the administrator ! All efforts to change this have thus far failed.

Any advice on how to get past this then would be much appreciated

    Welcome to TenForums @survivor51

The 'net user' command can be used in a standard command prompt, it doesn't need to be an admin command prompt. The results are just a list of all accounts on the PC, it doesn't tell you anything about them. For that, you need to type the command net user accountname substituting each name from your list for 'accountname'.

Look for 'Account active Yes' and 'Local Group Memberships *Administrators' to identify an administrator account you can use at the "enter an admin user name and password'' prompt. By default the built-in Administrator account is not active, so you can't use that one.

It is unusual for an administrator account to have a password expiry date, especially if it was the only administrator account. By default the first account, created when you set up Windows for the first time, is an administrator with no a account expiry date. Any further accounts you create yourself would also have no expiry date.

Have you been changing any registry settings? I can't think of any other reason an account may have been set to expire. The only other plausible explanation would be that this is a business computer and the company's IT admin have put policies in place, but I would expect such a machine to have had Pro installed, not Home.

If it is indeed asking for the password of Guest as you said in post #1 then it seems to think it's an administrator. That should not be the case. Guest is a built-in account with less rights than a standard user. It should also be disabled by default. What does net user Guest say? It should look like this...

    Code:
    C:\Users\owner>NET USER GUEST

    User name Guest
    Full Name
Comment Built-in account for guest access to the computer/domain
    User's comment
    Country/region code 000 (System Default)
    Account active No
    Account expires Never
    Password last set 04/01/2017 23:40:26
    Password expires Never
    Password changeable 04/01/2017 23:40:26
    Password required No
    User may change password No

    Workstations allowed All
    Logon script
    User profile
    Home directory
    Last logon Never
    Logon hours allowed All
    Local Group Memberships *Guests
    Global Group memberships *None

    The command completed successfully.

with respect, I am in a never ending loop here it seems everything i try brings up the same page that requires a password which I know, but when entered says it has expired-there are three options: password, yes/no
there is no option to change or create a new password or bring up another user

Without seeing that screen it's very difficult to diagnose anything. We need some facts to work on.

You said in post #3 that you could...
...open cmd prompt and the words ''net user '' brought up this response...
but when asked to do it again, because you say it is asking for the Guest a/c password, you reply...
...seems everything i try brings up the same page that requires a password
For all we know it could be a malware infection that's producing that page. If you can't take a screenshot, use a camera.
