If I put in my email address later on it asks for my Skype name and rejects it then.

That is not your Skype name, that is the screen name shown to your contacts. Two different things.

To find out your Skype name, click your avatar top left. In new window that opens, your Skype name is shown under your screen name:

The Skype name starts with live: followed by your name, underscore and four digits. For instance, Skype name for user John Doe could be live:john_1234.

That's the Skype name you must enter when asked, including the live: part.

When I tapped on the icon it only produced my email address; not my live name.

After using this email address I am next asked to enter my Skype name. Obviously, it is rejected.
