    Hi nichos

When did this start? Did you install April Update (1803) (If you checked for updates in last few days 1803 was delivered.)

You say password does not work on laptop, are you signing in locally or using a Microsoft Account?

Same for desktop, local or Microsoft account?

Saw another thread and there was some discussion as to whether it was related to a third party start menu, Classic Shell. Are you using?

The laptop on sign in page says Reset password.

Tried it, & created the reset usb disk enter the new password & gave "error occured while attempting to reset password".

Also tried holding dowm verious keys while booting but it alwys ends up in same signing page. Cannot get to Bios, start options or anything. Cannot even get to format the HD & reinstall w10 in case it changes things.

What on Earth is happening?. ..........nick

PS. always used classic shell on both.

Don't know about the update, they drive me mad & cannot stop them.

    Local signing.

    Hey Nick.

Might be a couple of ways to go, one activating elevated Admin and then reset your password or two, grab personal data and clean install.

One way to get the Advance Startup options, and an option within it is boot to BIOS, is power on machine. As soon as you see the spinning dots hold power button tills it shuts off. Power up, see spinning dots, hold power button until off.

Power on again and windows should start Advance Startup Options.

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

In Advance Startup options there is also the roll back to previous build.

Another sure fire way to get to BIOS is remove coin battery. You will lose settings in BIOS if you customized.

Activating elevated Admin (Option 5 might be best but you can read.)

Enable or Disable Elevated Administrator account in Windows 10

    Recovery disk to grab data.

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

Clean install (provided for completeness, obviously you build machines, you clean install)

    Clean Install Windows 10

When I asked about classic shell, here is that thread.

Cannot Sign In On 1803 April Update
