Hi, you probably would be able to use your PIN if you log in to Safe Mode with Networking.
The key is the need for internet access for your PIN to be recognised.
Can anyone confirm this? (I don't use a PIN myself).
@dalchina
PINs are stored on the machine only.
PIN is local to the device
A password is transmitted to the server -- it can be intercepted in transmission or stolen from a server. A PIN is local to the device -- it isn't transmitted anywhere and it isn't stored on the server.
Why a PIN is better than a password (Windows 10) | Microsoft Docs
I tried your suggestion in Safe Mode with Networking. Network is not activated until an identity is established. First pic shows Password box only and Network is disconnected.
Second pic, after Password, desktop is up and Network is connected.
Thanks, I've never used PINs, but did a little research and found a MS rep suggesting this... ah well..!
Every time I've tried to boot someone into safe mode, it has always required the password, and never a PIN.
EXTRA EXTRA!!!thanks you .
your issue about AVG give me signal about that maybe this is my problme too caz when i used registry cleaner to cleaning my laptop this problme also happened to me . you just need to get out from safe mode and it too easy JUST FOLLOW THIS STEPS:

Hello, I have the same issue, but with more problems... It won't take the password, not even the reset one, I tried bcdedit with a bootable USB , cmd but it gives me the message "the boot configuration data store could not be opened the requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple undistinguishable devices"
So bcdedit doesn t work for me what can i do please? I don-t remember installing multiple boots on the system and the system always booted fine, I put it into safe mode to try to uninstall a couple of things that wouldnt uninstall by themselves
Right now I am on Linux writing this, is there any way to either 1) bypass the password screen 2) make bcdedit work for me or 3) import from windows the logins and password from my firefox there so that I can view them in Linux and finally log in with the old password stored there? 4) any other solution that doesn't include reinstalling windows, I have too many things I need on the laptop
Thank you!!
If you have trouble signing on to Windows in Safe mode with or without networking, follow the instructions here: How to log on to Windows 7 automatically - CNET in order to log on and off automatically. This avoids all issues with passwords in Safe mode. You can always roll back this change easily.
