User Account Name Change

Renaming never works. Sure you can rename the folder in C:\Users\whatever

What will always be a problem is the original name will still be stored. Not only in the registry but also in various files in %appdata%. Even MS applications (like OneDrive) will store the paths explicitly naming the user.

You could (and I have) scan the contents of every file in %appdata% and rename them but it is still just a cludge.

Best is to make a new user than try to second guess Microsoft.

I'm surprised @Brink made a tutorial for this as it obviously doesn't work.

Final result of this whole process: JUST CREATE A NEW USERNAME AND START ALL OVER.

Weird/odd things keep popping up. The sound issue, random program errors, and random instability with Windows (I clicked the wifi button in notifications to turn it off the other day to move over to the built-in cellular and Windows became unresponsive forcing a hard reboot).

In preparation for the release of the spring creator's update on Monday, I plan to wipe my hard disk and completely reinstall everything from the Dell recovery disk and then work my way up to the spring creator's update before installing my necessary programs (Citrix Receiver, Nuance Dragon Medical Practice Edition, Office 365, QuickBooks, etc.).

My thought is that there are so many things that were changed that left remnants here and there, that it would be best to just start all over.

(sigh) There goes about 8-10 hours of my time getting everything set up again!

Out of curiosity, do you think Windows 10 will automatically download drivers for all the components or should I predownload them from Dell before installing?

Windows will automatically download default drivers on a clean install.
For the best drivers you must download them directly from the computer or motherboard manufacturer websites.
In your case the best drivers are directly from the Dell website.
So after Windows installs default drivers you can open the Dell website, download the Dell support assistant the use it to find the best drivers.
The next best source for drivers are the component manufacturer websites (Intel, Nvidia, AMD, Killer Networks, Realtek, etc.
There are websites that will scan and download drivers and for these drivers you do not know what you are getting. Sometimes they are causes of BSOD.
A Dell recovery disk is frozen in time. If you use it you will spend time performing more updates. It is inefficient. The best option is not to use an old recovery disk and use the up to date Dell website and/or the latest Windows iso upgrade followed by updates.
