Has not happened to me at all in a week.

Here too. Last issue was 19 Apr, last fix (reg profile change) made on that same machine on 20th Apr, no problems with fixed or untouched machines since. Could it be windows defender update, bcz on most of the computers in the office updates are manual and only auto-update program is the antivirus?

I'm thinking it has to be something to with this.

The dates line up for when we started having issues. Must've been a crappy hastily thrown together patch that messed things up. Quite infuriating. A new update was pushed out over the weekend "1.1.14800.3" replacing the "1.1.14700.5" emergency update, which is probably why I'm not seeing this problem anymore.

Lets hope they will TEST (!) patches much better then they used to , lost plenty of time with backups , restoring etc. .............

Update: After I read this thread, I decided to test and restart a few more times and I have to say a faulty update on windows defender is the cause. With the recent defender update, it got fixed! No more "we cant sign you in" problems. :)
