Yep, I know the feeling, it's 10.30pm now and I have another hour and a half to wait until midnight which is the end of the four hours timeline given for the latest promised phone call.
Omg. Well I just talked to another tech who took me through all of the previous steps I've already tried. He's actually suggesting I do the system recovery. Looks like I need to go get an external hard drive to use the backup option before it wipes everything. Not happy Microstuffed! Not happy!

[edit] I've also tried changing the keyboard language which didn't work for me either. Microsoft will need to do an update to give us a backdoor to get in without the password to resolve this issue or they will lose a lot of customers. My advice, if you haven't done it already. Definitely make that reset password disk and a windows 10 disk. You're gonna need it....

Well, surprise surprise the call never came and I am giving up on M/S. Went to a respected PC repair shop and they will deal with it. They did not seem too surprised and did say, "it was a free upgrade what did you expect"..
Will let you know the outcome and, hopefully, how they get round the problem,,,,,, as I believe they say in the states "what a croc of s..."

Phoned by repair shop, he said "total disaster," found it so interesting he took it home for the weekend but couldn't crack it so contacted a high up tech in M/S who finally admitted that there are thousands of these cases and M/S have absolutely no idea how to solve it, hence the reason we do not get the promised calls from them. The shop will now reset my pc to original settings then download windows 10 again, set it up without a password and then put my data back on.......... Interested to know how the rest of you get on.

I didn't have any better luck. I got the hard drive and backed up my computer. About 255gb? Took all night. I restored my computer back to factory startup. Using Windows 7 again now. The back up program managed to keep all my pics which was great, but I lost over half of my movies. I heard from a MS Tech the next day and I told him what I did and he said that was the only option. He said not to upgrade to windows 10 for at least another couple months until they have all these issues resolved. I said,"I think I'll be waiting for at least 6 months. If ever! I'm not happy!".

So maybe if people wait a month or two, they might be able to resolve it with an update? Otherwise, it's Format and Re-install time....

Just had the same issue. Windows 10 downloaded fine but wouldn't allow you to login to your computer. Spoke with microsoft and the issue was Norton Anti-virus. Apparently they haven't upgraded their system to work with windows 10 yet. We removed Norton (windows 10 has built in security - fyi) and then re-booted and the login then worked. Hope this is helpful!
how do i remove anything if i can't logon????

Good question Rob, I don't know how they did it but they have. They kept my laptop for 2weeks trying everything before finally giving up, restoring to factory settings then re-installing 10 and my data, music, photos etc, cost me £55 which wasn't at all bad for the work they put in. Haven't had much time to play with it yet but have managed to put my e mail accounts on ok so fingers crossed. The guy did recommend that everyone should wait quite a time before putting it on so that M/S can sort out the dozens of issues. Poor show and shame on you M/S !!!

Here is the fix (From Microsoft customer support)

I updated my PC last night and when it was over, I shut it down. This morning, when I woke up and started it, I tried entering my PIN and it told me that it was incorrect. I tried entering my MS password, which I know it's correct, and it told me the same thing. Now I can't log in on my computer. What can I do? O.o
I had the same problem: I installed Windows 10 on my desktop...no problems. However, when I installed W10 on my Lenovo laptop, it wouldn't accept my password or pin, and kept instructing me to go to account.live to change my password. I did that and STILL it wouldn't allow me to sign in...kept saying stuff like " you are offline".

Called Microsoft computer support...they were on a 1 1/2 hour wait time, they called back over 4 hours later: Here is the fix, and it worked for me:

    1. Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on RESTART from the power option on the bottom right corner of screen.
    2. Menus should pop up for System Restore options .... go to ADVANCED options.
    3. Go to SEE MORE RECOVERY OPTIONS until you see this and ONLY THIS: Restore Previous Build .... click on that.
    4. Make sure your device is plugged in and mine took over 3 hours...kept saying "RESTARTING" with the circle spinning dots
    5. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back....Hey Mr. Kotter!!!! You should be back to 8.1 or whatever....
    6. I went ahead and installed W10 again a second time with NO ISSUES....YAY !! Life is good again!

Hope this helps you and have a great day!

I'm pretty sure F11 got me to safe mode, but when I got there, I still needed my password to use it. It was ridiculous. I'm using Windows 7 again now. After losing half of my stuff it's turned me right off.

Hi, not sure if this helps but I came across the same problem after a windows 10 upgrade. I got around the issue by using the on screen keyboard (touch screen) rather than the actual keyboard and it let me in.

Maybe as part of the upgrade, it has given me an American keyboard and with my password using special characters, it wouldn't recognise the password even though it was correct.

Could a UK style USB keyboard be used to log in??
