Not working with 20H2 update
This registry 'fix' worked well until I installed the new Windows 10 'upgrade' and then my search window became attached to the Start Button as described above.
I uninstalled the 20H2 upgrade, deleted the Search changes from the registry, re-installed the upgrade and it worked fine, but I now don't have a floating search bar - does anyone know if this can be enabled somehow?

I really don't like the Search utility in Win10, with its meaningless suggestions in that big black box. The little floating bar (with rounded corners, please) was ideal for me. I put it on my computer some years ago and loved it. But then with that one Windows Update, I had that same situation of the Search utility covering the All Apps list.
At the time I thought the update broke my system and looked online for a solution. A few other people had reported the same situation, but only one had a fix... one line of Registry edit. Sure enough, that did the trick.
I probably didn't use Search for a while, but when I did, the big black box was back. Oh well, no time to investigate, so I lived with it for quite a period.
Then I addressed the nuisance and was linked immediately to the initial fix that Shaun gave us back in 2017. Totally overlooking the clearly-posted warning, I performed Step 3. But even before I had an opportunity to open and use the floating bar, what did I first encounter but that big ugly Search box hiding my All Apps list.
Fortunately I put two and two together, came back here, noted and performed Step 6 to reverse the change. That fixed things.
Again, my thanks to this group for not only providing fixes, but fixes for the fixes! Now, what did I say my name was?
