    How to Allow or Prevent Themes to Change Mouse Pointers in Windows 10

    In Windows, you can use themes to help make your desktop feel a little more personal. Themes change the desktop background, colors, sounds, screen saver, and pointers on your PC all at once, and you can switch between themes as often as you like.

    This tutorial will show you how to prevent or allow themes to change mouse pointers for your account in Windows 10.

    The downloadable .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes

    ThemeChangesMousePointers DWORD

    0 = Prevent
    1 = Allow

    Here's How:

    1. Do step 2 (allow) or step 3 (prevent) below for what you would like to do.

     2. To Allow Themes to Change Mouse Pointers

    This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Allow_themes_to_change_mouse_pointers.reg

    download

     3. To Prevent Themes to Change Mouse Pointers

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Prevent_themes_to_change_mouse_pointers.reg

    download

    4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    6. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    7. If you like, you can now delete the downloaded .reg file.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    Hello Shawn I often change the background theme pics and find the mouse cursor which I like - Windows default Extra Large system scheme reverts back to the small default scheme.

    Now which of these files do I need to download to keep the size of the cursor the same at all times regardless of the Theme I choose. It is probably the way I am reading and taking it that I ask.

    Hello John,

    Using step 3 will stop your mouse pointers (cursors) from getting changed whenever you change your theme in Windows.
