Deleting the TenForums entry in the registry, and possibly running AVG TuneUp to clean up the registry, seems to have worked after all!
I have just taken a look at "Play_Sound_at_Logon_Passwordless.bat". The script will not touch Windows Registry. The entry you deleted must have been added by some other means.

In that case, I have no idea how and when that entry was added. Nor do I have any idea why it is that the logon sound task has been terminated now after all. But I'm glad and relieved it has. And I still find it very strange that I couldn't find the task in Task Manager.
N.b.: I had placed a copy of the .wav file in the folder: C:/Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Menu Start/Programs/Startup and removed that too, but could just putting that file there have created a task? I wouldn't think so.

The script under option one will not create a task in Task Manager.

It won't? Okay, thanks, Matthew, for this info. I keep learning. But what finally put an end to the logon sound being played and the WMP screen popping up remains a mystery. Perhaps Newton's famous First Law of Motion? ツ
