i have multiple drives in my computer one is tied to my C drive but 2 others are not. should i or could i put restore points on different drives to save space on C drive. i turned sys protection on for the other drives but never knew whether i should or not. one drive is simply for file/folder storage and the other one serves as a back up location each is 1Tb, Cdrive is not because i bought the ssd when there were no 1tb ssd available. and 500gb was out of my price range ,then.
this is a windows concept i never understood. all my drives are working together. no raid or anything exotic. windows decided to link 2 drives, not even C and D in windows 10 as i had in windows 7. just so happens that i use one drive to store a load of iso movies and a few mp4s. i dont need any restore point for them as restore points cover system things not files as i understand it. i just remember seeing restore points on more than one hard drive in the past with system restore attempts or the windows upgrades i bought over the years. or some time or other. since windows 10 i rarely see more than 2 though i know more have been made because change drivers and other things which make note of creating a restore point prior to installation. i figured that somehow windows 10 had something set someplace not to have more than a couple, i thought i allotted plenty of space on the drive. that is why i wanted to try to put restore points on another drive with more allocated space. no big deal but i dont like having to encounter only 2 restore points over 2weeks apart when i know more were made. as i say, i looked to be sure there was plenty of space , or i thought there was based on how large the restore points were that stayed
Correct, a restore point won't include your personal files. Only system related files, drivers, and apps.
Restore points are fine for helping to undo a recent action that caused issues, but keeping system images is always best.
thanks, i do system images 2x a month, but with windows 10 i have been forced to do a total 'reset' twice. the windows 10 automatic system restore has come back 2x with corrupted source which is not accurate. it is a generic response for failures. i have had poor luck with windows 10 since i got auto upgraded from windows 7 and the rollback option 'disappeared' in 8days or less. i am pretty sure my most recent restore from image is due to the fact that i was in the insider program and not in the same update number or something like that. i had my insider program version of windows 10 i had been using from the initial availability of that program long before the release came about. but , i got that disrupted in one of the restore attempts and keep in the program but use my official paid for version of the upgraded windows 10 as the insider version . had issues reinstating the virtual machine version and it became too much of a headache. so, i learned that keeping system images of my insider program but purchased windows 10 can be dangerous if not impossible.
@Brink, this tutorial can be simplified into one line of command:

It works via both PowerShell (Admin) and elevate Command Prompt. You may add it into the tutorial if you find it useful.

So no automatic 3-4 days restore points now.
Looking in task scheduler is a single task, that looks like its just for on demand, there is no trigger, and it also has a condition to only run when idle for 10 minutes.
This has probably been mentioned somewhere in this thread, but I did not see it among all the other stuff:
What is the default interval, if any, that win 10 creates system restore points in the absence of other triggering events, such as app installations?
