I have that problem too. "Instant search result" in file explorer does not work for me after 1909 update. even after cumulative update KB4535996. i did DISM and SFC checks and those are fine.

Download Indexer diagnostic from MS Store. It's a beta app from MS that deals with Indexer and Search problems. May get some info about the problem

thanks for that. i tried this app but it didn't fix that problem. i contact to MS support and after doing some troubleshooting steps, finally they said you should do fresh clean install

    Alireza,

Did you pressure MS in any way? Their advice sounds to me that they felt that had to say something to get rid of you.

You can clean install if you want to but you might end up with the same problem.

Or you can just start using a third-party search utility for a few months and see if Windows updates fix the problem.
    - I use NirSoft's SearchMyFiles [which can search content in Word & Excel files] but others prefer different utilities.
    - For pdf file content, I use the search facility {as opposed to its simple find facility] within Foxit Reader
    - [Adobe has, or had the last time I used it, similar advanced search facilities but they were much more difficult to get at].

Assuming you upgraded to 1909 from 1903 and search was working normally in 1903, you might consider uninstalling 1909 updates and the enablement package to revert to 1903 meantime.

As soon as I saw a problem here on upgrading to 1909 I reverted to 1903- and I'm staying there until MS has sorted itself out on this.

Meanwhile for file and folder search by name only, an easy option is to use one of the free fast search indexing tools. If you want content search, the better programs are not free. There is Docfetcher (open source) which does index content.

That's all assuming you're performing a search which should yield a result, and search indexing is working on your PC of course. Even if indexing wasn't working or parts of the path searched were not indexed, you should get - at the worst- a very slow search with a green progress bar.

Good point. I've amended my last post to include a comment about content searching.

you are right installing new windows won't change it. i checked my laptop with build 1909 and same story there with instant search.

the search is working fine on file explorer. but the main difference is that we must hit enter button after typing in search box to see results, but before we could see search results while typing (exactly like #9).

This is called an 'improvement' by MS. You have 1909- here's how it's described in 2004:

New File explorer features in Windows 10 version 2004

You may well find more and even a video.

This appears to offer a possible fix to revert to the previous way file explorer search worked.
