Windows 10: Windows 10 ISO Download
Hi All, I'm Jamie
Kind of but i believe if you create an ISO, you can still use the Windows 7 DVD/USB Tool to put the ISO onto a Pen Drive too.
I'm sure that's how i installed 10 during the insider releases.
Can you not just extract the contents of the iso directly to a usb stick?
Which version do you get?
Because I'm not wasting over a week's-worth of my monthly allowance for another beta.
Currently on 10162 over 8.1 Pro. Also, I am an Insider, and would prefer to remain there for the present. I do not wish to sacrifice my Win 8.1 licence just yet.
Some confusion over product keys? Here's what I wrote in another forum. ...
Microsoft have now released the ISO:
Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File)
You should first use this for an upgrade, not a clean install, you can then do a clean install if you wish:
Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool
Regarding clean installs, from the above page (my bold):
If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer
Win_10 available on MSDN subscriber site
AS the title says. Just popped up for me. All editions with new keys.
I have used this method to download the ISO. It has created the following file on my desktop:
Now I am not sure what to do and how to proceed...
Win 7 64bit, Home Premium, here. Already reserved 10, already downloaded the required files (since yesterday), current status is I'm waiting to get notified for the Upgrade. I've never upgraded to Win 10 on this computer but I was running the Technical Preview for a couple of months now. This TP was and is installed on another SSD, currently unplugged from my computer.
Should I clean install?
Should I wait to Upgrade on its own?
Or should I use this ISO to upgrade, and HOW can I do this, please? Can I use this ISO to upgrade?
Thank you, that's what I was looking for.

I returned to give an update.
I used Windows 7 USB DVD Tool to create a bootable USB stick with the ISO I mention above. It worked (of course). Then I clean-installed this on my secondary SSD, there I was having Win 10 TP. Installation went fine but it did not activate. It did not activate not even when I've logged in with my MS Insider e-mail account, the same I used to reserve Windows 10 (If I recall correctly).
So, it's true that the Upgrade is compulsory for Windows 10 to activate.
Now I am back on Win 7, on my other SSD, waiting to get Upgraded.
I've also tried that method describing to empty SoftwareDistribution/Downloads folder and then try again. It does NOT work.

Make a backup image of Windows 7
Run the windows 10 upgrade on windows 7 (using media tool if you wish)
once you get windows 10 activation - restore windows 7 backup image
clean install windows 10 on second ssd
If you are referring to me, I do not need to make any backup image of Win 7. I am ready to install my programs again, no problem at all. I would perform a clean installation, anyway. ALL I need is to install and activate the reserved copy of Windows 10 Home that MS promised. Nothing more.
I rerun the media tool, that new tool, for one more time right now. This time I have selected "Upgrade this PC". It is unbelievable that it downloads everything again. I have already downloaded the ISO today, with the same tool, and I already have that hidden folder of approx. 5 GB since yesterday! But right now, another big download is in progress:
I do not mind. As long as it will install, upgrade, activate AT LAST!
Is windows 10 supposed to download on computers that signed up through that notification thing before the 29th? I ask this because since yesterday i have lost 10Gb of hard drive space and i have not download a thing
So, I have both windows 7 and windows 10 installed on two computers. (Total of four operating systems) And I need to download User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 update for Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2, but when I click 'Click here' and...
Hi, I am having this problem which drives me crazy for the last three days.
Every time I download the technical preview, the sha1 of the downloaded ISO file is not the same as the one they provide at the download page. More than that, when I try to...
Thanks for this forum.
I am trying to create a bootable dvd in preparation for the test install of Windows 10.
I am running Windows 7 pro 64-bit with all the updates.
Not sure if the image worked.
Here is the window I get when I run the...
Does this article from NeoWin appear to sound legit? It cites that a staged download page was accidentally put online, but hastily removed. If it's correct, it appears that a 32-bit build will be available.
