How to Add or Remove Pin to Taskbar Context Menu in Windows 10

By default, users can right click or press and hold on an application, and click/tap on Pin to taskbar or Unpin from taskbar to pin or unpin the app on the taskbar for their account.

This tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Pin to taskbar and Unpin from taskbar context menu items for all users in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the context menu.

This will not affect Pin to taskbar on the modern context menu used by the Start menu and taskbar.

EXAMPLE: "Pin to taskbar" and "Unpin from taskbar" context menu

    Here's How:

1 Do step 2 (add) or step 3 (remove) below for what you would like to do.

2 To Add "Pin to taskbar" to Context Menu

    This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Add_Pin_to_Taskbar_context_menu.reg

    Download

3 To Remove "Pin to taskbar" from Context Menu

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Remove_Pin_to_Taskbar_context_menu.reg

    Download

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    Hello mate,

What type of file is this for?

Go ahead and post a screenshot showing what you're seeing instead to see if anything may stand out.

Option 1 below is a good way to take a screenshot of a context menu in Windows 10.

Just to note, "Pin to taskbar" will only be available in the context menu of application files by default.

    Hi Brink
How would the registry file be modified to be able to pin all files (of all extensions), urls, scripts, folders, and drives to the taskbar? Would modifying the Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\* and Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFileSystemObjects entries cover all of the file types listed above?
