    Hi Brink,

    I've discovered that lately (probably due to the latest Windows 10 updates), the only way to get my DVD drive to appear in File Manager (This PC) is to go into 'View' and choose 'Show All Folders'.

    The problem is that this then reveals some other folders (Control Panel, Libraries, and User) that I would like to keep hidden. I've seen your tutorials for hiding/showing the various folders in File Manager, but if I hide them, then my DVD drive is hidden as well. Do you have a work around for this?

    Thanks a lot,

    Florio

    Hello Florio, :)

    Does the DVD drive stay hidden only when empty?

    Does it show when you have a disc in the DVD drive?

    Yes, Brink. I just checked.

    If I untick 'Show all Folders' while there is a disc in the drive, then the drive remains visibile. Is that 'standard behaviour' now as far as DVD drives in Windows 10 are concerned? I remember that once upon a time, DVD drives were just not hidden.

    You might check using the tutorial below to see if unchecking Hide empty drives in Folder Options and clicking on OK may help.

    Hello @Brink ,

    I had setup REG files for these as it suited me better. If you think they would be a good addition then by all means include them . . .

    Show Hidden:
    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    "Hidden"=dword:00000001
    Don't Show Hidden:
    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    ; Title : Don't Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives

    Show Protected:

    "ShowSuperHidden"=dword:00000001
    Don't Show Protected:

    The Super Hidden [ Protected ] will need an Explorer Restart.

    Brink,

    I've been using your batch files and I have remarked out the restart explorer lines so I can see what's going on while I'm playing conducting serious research.
    The changes are made & they take effect even without an explorer restart [both for changes to displaying Hidden items & to displaying System items].
    What am I risking by avoiding the restart?

    Hello Denis,

    Restarting the explorer process is included as a precaution since changes are not always applied instantly for this.

    Ah, OK. Thanks.

    My changes are being applied instantly so far. I always Show or Hide both at the same time so I've combined the batch files for each.
    I'll leave out the explorer restart for now as an experiment and I'll let you know if I discover anything useful.

    All the best,
    Denis
