Exactly. I know on other aspects of Win 10 there have been undocumented settings/parameters that work. Maybe they will get round to updating them at some stage !

I think those were Vista switches. See What does this defrag switch do - TechNet

I've seen them mentioned before but whether it was here or SevenForums I do not remember.
I never saw any report that they had tried them and that they actually had a real effect in Ten or in Seven.

The 64MB limit was added to defrag with the advent of Windows 7 so it became redundant then. That /r switch in Vista indicates that it had been added earlier as an experiment.
    Interesting info Denis, thanks you.

With the way computers are used today using more powerful software which in turn enables the creation of bigger and more complex files, they need to remove that limit. Just my thoughts.

    Paul,

Sorry, your quote makes me think you did not see my link to
Disk Defragmentation - Background and Engineering the Windows 7 Improvements - MSLearn
It took me a while to find & add a working link.
The Background and Engineering the Windows 7 Improvements articles were fascinating and very informative but there were no Windows 10 equivalents so we are left to guess what was inherited or progressed further.

I disagree. I think their logic in establishing the 64MB threshold seems to apply still.
What they are saying is that disks are so fast these days in comparison with other computer components that there ends up being no speed advantage in further clumping lumps together once you've clumped all the smaller bits together so they are all at least 64MB.

Yes, I missed that. I must wear my glasses more often.

Anyway, I have just read the article dated 2009, and I must admit that I agree with your comments in regard to it and the logic base stated.

However, I still think that there could be additional options added for users if so required.
