For now, it may be best to undo what you did to rename the user profile folder to restore its original name to see if it will stop the temp profile issue.
This way you can at least get back to square one.
    That's what I've done.
Do I need to change to local user? will that help?

It seems that the URL path on the explorer window keeps showing C:\Users\gille while the actual folder and ProfileImagePath are C:\Users\Gil
Just to verify, when you used the tutorial below, did you use the path that's showing in File Explorer for your user profile folder? I ask because the path can't be both above. Only one is showing in File Explorer as the folder name.

Fix You've been signed in with a temporary profile in Windows 10

I used the path that's showing in file explorer for my user profile folder.

That's what I don't understand. How come the path showing C:\Users\gille but the folder was renamed to C:\Users\Gil?

I also don't have ther Admin icon next to the RENAME option. It just allows me to rename it when I use the admin profile.
    I've done in-place upgrade but I didn't try to re-do the renaming.
I don't think it will help. This is really weird. I've never come across this.
If you want to remote to my PC.... :)

    Hmm, something is crossing somewhere.

As a test, rename the folder back to gille, and check the registry to make sure it's correct for gille.

Are you still getting the temp profile with the folder showing as gille in File Explorer and registry?

Not since I reverted back to 'gille' and renamed -1002.bak to -1002 and set the image path to gille.
If I try to rename the image path in registry and rename the folder, I'll get the TEMP showing up and .bak in registry

It sounds like something is still wanting to use "gille", so it may be best to leave the profile folder named this.

And, unfortunately, that is sometimes the only option. I battled that for months, until I just gave up!

I never had issues with renaming user profile folders until now with this new PC.
I wonder if it's the fact I'm not using a local user.
