Change Name of User Profile Folder in Windows 10  

Brink, I thought I was okay, as I saw OneDrive in my new Users folder. Not so. and you suggested I do step 14. Ha, I had already deleted the old Users folder. I had uninstalled OneDrive, and thought that once it was installed again (sometimes in the future), the problem would be resolved. However, OneDrive is like a bad penny, and it showed up again. Is there any way I can really uninstall OneDrive and thus solve this problem, or is there some other way?

I get an error message that says the file or the folder wasnt found if i try to change its name from a another user account. I have tried booting in safemode. Also, if i change the name of my folder in regedit, i cant sign into my account anymore, since windows will say that he account doesnt exist.

I too have some registry entries still referring to the old user name. In particular, all the keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders correctly reference the new name, but all the relevant keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders still reference the old name.

Everything appears to be working properly at present, but I've no idea what uses the Shell Folders. Is this something I should be worried about? (I could, of course, manually amend all the Shell Folders keys, if that were the right thing to do.)

According to Registrar Registry Manager, there are 198 instances of Users\Micro\ ("Micro" being the old username) in the registry, and only 180 instances of \Micro\. (This must be a unique occurrence of a subset being larger than the set to which it belongs!) And according to RegCool, there are 211 instances of both!


Since the folder c:\Users\Micro\ no longer exists, I guess that it couldn't do any harm changing all the instances of Users\Micro\ to Users\MyName\ , and it might possibly avoid some program failing to find what it is looking for?

Before you do so, I would recommend to at least create a restore point to be able to do a system restore using the restore point if needed afterwards.
