Brink, what about [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\] on x64? I also noticed that there are a lot of locations in the registry that has the old profile name after changing the values that you suggest and ---- a "Settings" search seems to fail.

Hello rdwray,
Changes are also automatically made to that registry location when changes are made to the location in the tutorial.
The location in the tutorial is the main reference used by Windows, so anything should automatically be directed to what is set here.
The search in Settings issue should be unrelated to this setting.

Followup: The old user profile must be deleted manually after deleting the account - right?
Are there any folders that need to be deleted other that C:\users\user?

You don't delete anything if you're just renaming the user profile folder from the tutorial on the first page.
If you wanted to delete an account, then doing so from Settings will also delete its profile folder.

Deleting the account using "Settings" did not delete the profile folder, that was the reason for the question. They are making changes to Windows 10 so fast that they are making a mess of it because they "are not" doing a through job of testing - it has grown into a monster - I want my XP back

In that case, you should be able to manually delete the account's profile folder.

Just to let you know: I did a test profile to see how much work it was to move to a new one, because I have an issue with "ms-resource:AppData/Text" entry under "Other" in the start menu, and then deleted it and then did a restore because the folder was still present and it was still there after the restore.

Ah, ok. I was wondering why you were wanting to delete the profile when you posted in the rename profile tutorial
