Oh, yet another question about this.

    Suppose I do this:

    1. System unattended sleep timeout is at 2 minutes.
    2. I set System unattended sleep timeout to zero (i.e. never) manually.
    3. I hibernate the machine manually.
    4. machine wakes from a wake timer to run a prog
    5. prog runs and sets System unattended sleep timeout back to 2 (minutes) just before it exits.

Will the system hibernate after 2 more minutes, zero more minutes, or never?

    Thanks.

It should go back to hibernate after 2 minutes of unattended idle as set by the prog.

Thanks! I'll take that to mean 2 minutes of unattended idle after the point at which it was set to 2 minutes.

It appears that that is not what actually happens. I have not done a careful experiment yet, but it appears that what happens is that after the unattended timeout is set back to 2 minutes by a powershell script, it obeys the "regular" hibernate timeout, which in my case is 1 hour, even though there has been no user input.

I'm not sure whether that depends on whether the time since wake is more than 2 minutes. I can imagine funny stuff happening if the time since wake is already more than 2 minutes at the point when it's reset to 2 minutes.
