    Hello chummy, :)

You could use the method in the tutorial to have those details show for the file types you want, but the details will now show if not actually available for the file.

What should I do for folders?

    Hi
It was really nice, Thank you. :)
I wonder how can I customize details pane for a folder! When I’m clicking a folder it’s only showing last modified date but no folder size, file count or anything useful.

I already found "Folder" in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and added a "PreviewDetails" string included "prop:System.Size;System.ContentType;System.DateModified" in value data, but it didn't do anything in details pane of folders in my windows. do you have any idea how can I do that?

    Thanks

but it really bother me to stop for a second for tips to be shown. it would be very helpful to edit folder details in the pane. Do you have any suggestions about that?

    Shawn,

Thanks. I have always wanted to be able to change the Details shown for music files - I add comments to my music files but did not know how to add them to the Details pane so I have always had to go through the Properties, Details tab {which is slower and, since it is not shown in the Details pane, I can quite easily miss doing some of them}.

I thought the details of what I did might help somebody else so here goes.

The MSDN link you provided does not list all of the available properties. I found the correct syntax for what I needed by searching the Registry for genre because that is already in the default Details for mp3 files so I knew it would be found somewhere or other. I found it in the entries for audio files in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ContentDirectory.item.audioItem and used the syntax it showed me for the particular ones I wanted.

    So I now have
    key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11.AssocFile.MP3
    Name PreviewDetails
    Data prop:System.Music.AlbumTitle;System.Music.TrackNumber;System.Title;System.Music.AlbumArtist;System.M usic.Artist;System.Music.Genre;System.Music.Composer;System.Comment;System.Media.Year;System.Media.D uration;System.Audio.EncodingBitrate;System.DateModified

    Details pane before changes
    Details pane after changes

Thanks again. This will help me several times every single week.

    Denis
i did the same thing as you did and it worked but then i installed PotPlayer and it made itself the default program for mp3s which then turned the control pane to its default setting, so i uninstalled Potplayer using Revo so that it deletes all the registry changes it made but now no matter what i do i cant customize the pane, somebody please help.
this is how the registry looks now

Hello bahadorQ, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You might see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed mp3 item in Option Two of the tutorial below may be able to help. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for .mp3 files.

Afterwards, see if you're able to do customize the preview details again.

    Hi Brink,
thanks for the quick reply, i tried but still nothing happens.
maybe the problem is with WMP11.AssocFile.MP3

do you see any problems with it? or do you think its possible to have a restore to default .reg for WMP11.AssocFile.MP3?

WMP11.AssocFile.MP3 is included in the .reg file.

I suppose you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before you installed PotPlayer to undo the changes made by it.

oh but then when i merged the .reg and restarted the computer the PreviewDetails string that i had made was still there.
i cant do a system restore point because i was installing some VSTs for Ableton and other softwares at around the same time and it would be challenging to deal with if i lost them
