I'm having the same issue after doing the latest verison of Windows 1511,10586. I had this working and ready for deployment through out our building until I installed the updates and now it broke my .XML file to assign default apps?? Has there been a fix to this yet??
Before I was getting an icon of a <globe> and then lines around it. Now Its giving me a blank page icon.... Any ideas to fix this??
Hello Daniel, :)
If you like, you could download and merge the .reg file for the XML item in the table in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below to restore the default association for .xml files.

Okay this did work for resetting the .xml file to open using Internet Explorer. But as soon as a new user signs on from Active Directory the bottom right of my screen said "An app has been set to default" and it changes all of the apps I had set using the built in admin account back to default.
Any suggestions to make this pull the built in admins default apps to new users??
You might see if using the tutorial below to stop "An app has been set to default" may allow your changes made afterwards to remain.

I was afraid of that since it only gets applied to the current user.
Other than merging the .reg file in each new account all the time, you might see if uninstalling the KB3135173 update may help. It's been reported to have helped some with this issue.
