"I've been reading up on the registry lately. I plan to periodically backup (export) registry hive:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
just in case I accidentally make another boboo . I think exporting and importing (merge) a single hive would be better than to backup and restore the entire registry."
Hello Brink, I need to unassociate .dxf files from apps please!?
Hello @Arkyquest, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

"Hello @Arkyquest,
All you have to do is copy what Brink sent you to your desktop. Right click on it. a context menu will appear. click on MERGE to complete the operation.
Prior to execution, you should backup your registry or set a system restore point. Hope that help."
Thanks Brink, will try not to click that button in the future unless I really want to... why isn't there a big UNDO button on the desktop for these situations
You're most welcome Arkyquest. I'm glad it could help. :)
Technically, you could use system restore with restore points as a big undo button.
I've been having this issue with .smd files, where, I want to open them with "Unknown Application" again. Once, I tried to open an .smd file with Blender, but now all of these kinds of files open with Blender.
I followed your first option, where I had to download FileTypesMan. But after following the instructions, .smd disappeared from FileTypesMan, and all of these files still open with Blender...
Could you help me, please? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks! :)
Hello @VPG001, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
If you like, the .reg file below will unassociate the .smd file type for you.
