I come here to express my gratitude. Just like edsager I had trouble with restoring thumbnails for .png files and the solution you provided fixed it instantly. I struggled with this problem for few months now and having those thumbnails working again is a real game changer. Thank you very much.
You're most welcome, and welcome to Ten Forums. I'm glad it was able to help.

I just did this with txt files, and now the new txt documents have by default capitalized extension ".TXT". Is there a way to fix this?

    Hello Anixx,

Not sure why. There's not any capitalized "TXT" in the download in option two for this.

A lot of problems occured after I intalled NeatOffice from App Store (and then removed). Now file associations are not remembered and when files are associated with some programs, the immersive choice dialog appears instead. I will try to restore the system to the restore point.

is it possible to add .rar and .7z to the list, I can't for the life of me get them back to default, I like the idea of having compressed files open up as a file explore folder.

    Hello tec, and welcome.

The REG file below will remove your user choice associations for RAR and 7z so they will use the defaults again.

    RAR_and_7z.reg

    Contents for reference:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rar]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.rar]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.rar]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Roaming\OpenWith\FileExts\.rar]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.7z]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.7z]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.7z]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Roaming\OpenWith\FileExts\.7z]

Thank you It reset the file associations, but I presume that Windows 10 doesn't support 7z and rar files natively only zip files, but it doesn't matter, I suppose 7-zip will work for that.

Correct. 7-Zip will handle them instead.
