Windows 10: Restore Default File Type Associations in Windows 10
In that case, it appears you may still have a .scm entry left in the registry somewhere.
Use the Find and Find Next feature in Registry Editor to search for anymore .scm keys (left pane).
Registry Editor - Find and Find Next
For all .scm key instances found, please export them, and upload them here. I'll be happy to take a look to make sure it's safe to delete.

I dont have a way to take a image of the screen that im aware of. I can record a video of the screen, and upload that to you-tube showing some of the registry .
Im very unsure what to do.
I've also in frustration erased some folders along that fileExts .scm path . That may be one reason maybe why your reg.edit didnt take ? Im unsure.
No worries. Another option is to do a system restore using a restore point dated before you mistakenly set it to open with Notepad to quickly undo it.
System Restore Windows 10
Wont I loose files and installed programs ive installed after the restore points ? ?
Yes, but hopefully you'll have a restore point available right before this happened.
You can use step 11 in OPTION TWO to see what programs will be affected before doing the system restore though.
Seems i will loose too much that i cant easily replace. Tiring . Anyway i give up. I guess I will just leave it . If you come up with a less invasive method, Im all ears. good night.
The .reg file should have deleted that key for you.
Try merging it again being sure to approve all prompts, then restart.
I posted on another thread you made, that worked for me, I just cut the internet explorer in task manager, its a bit different or called something different in Windows 10. The screen went all black, i navigated to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local by entering that into task in the manager- run a new task , it took me
where the hidden Icon thing is , and deleted it manually. I started up the process i stopped before through task manager, new task, and entered this C:\Windows\explorer.exe and the windows appeared, when I looked at the mixed up file association i had problems with before, it was corrected
Great news John.

I'm used to working with quite a few libraries in W8.1 and would like file explorer in W10 to directly go to the libraries view if possible rather than the 'quick access' screen.
Can it be done ?
I unpinned a lot of the apps from the Start menu, now I'd like to restore it to it's installation default.
Any way to do this?
I'm currently using Windows 7 and am excited about the roll out of Windows 10.
I skipped Windows 8 because of all the bad reviews.
I will be keeping my Windows 7 computer (which is flawless) and buying a brand new machine with Windows 10 as soon...
Is it possible to choose a default location/folder to open when opening File Explorer from the task bar? Default is that it opens Quick access. I use OneDrive a lot, and would really like to see that I could set that to open that location....
