Hey Brink. Oh boy. I just installed a fresh setup of Win10 on Win 7 via Media Creation Tool. Now I'm trying desperately to link a software called S4Studio which works with .package files, but it seems like an impossible mission. It's so exhaustive to open each file manual with the software. I cannot simply double-click as I used to few days ago on my old setup.

I had to reset my system because I had some system errors and now I cannot make it work the way I want. Because if I click on the .package there is only a dialog that says "Open With" but it does not say the thing which I used to have "open with another app on your pc"

This software "S4Studio" I use is of course not available on the Microsoft Store. It's a software to create Mods for the Game "Sims4". I tried to reset WIN10 default File Association and followed your tutorial but even after installing the REG file PACKAGE. It did say that it has been successfully installed but does not show up on the extension list with the .package file REG and also tried your other tutorial tutorial"]"Open With 'Always use this app" [/URL]but this also does not show up.

    My main issue is
All I want is that the program "S4Studio is linked to the filetype .package.

The only option I have is by Open With, it says How do you want this file to open
I have to click on Open Microsoft Store (with clicking always use this app). But I want to open it with this other program I have on my PC.

I used to have this function few days ago before I did this reset "Open this file with another app".
Now that everything is fresh installed this does not seem exist any longer??? I even did not install all the progams I have.

Can someone help me out what else I can try? I'm not a pro but I have a somewhat a pretty good knowledge about PC. So every possible solution is welcome.

Thank you guys. I can't work the way I'm used to. This drives me so nuts!

Hello fleurlibelle, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Go ahead and post some screenshots showing what do you see instead of this below when you double click on the .package file to see if anything may stand out.

Okay I managed this somehow. My system is in German but you can see even with "open with" when I click this is what it shows. Even under properties "Öffnen Mit = Open With" App auswählen = Chose App" the same dialog pops up! I have no other dialogs or options. So sadly it does not show any of the options you have in your screenshots. I cannot look for another app. This does not pop up!

    Yeah I made the screenshot

As soon I double-click following window opens "How do you want to open this file" but I don't have the option to open it with another app or program. It says Always use this App to open this file

I've just now updated the Package .reg file download in option 2 of the tutorial. Please try it to see if it may help more.

    Nope doesn't work, either! Sadly...
Tried to find the package filetype within "Standard-Apps nach Dateityp auswählen" Select App via Filetype" but it does not show up. Did restart PC as well.

Unfortunately, ".package" doesn't show up in that list by default. Even if a default app was set for it.

I must admit that I'm not sure why it's not allowing you to select an app for it since it does for me.

Well it was worth a try! I don't know why I don't have this function anymore... I mean I did a fresh set up just two days ago. I only installed photoshop , Origin Launcher and the Game Sims 4 along with this software S4Studio and Avast Antivirus ( I deinstalled it and restarted because I read somewhere else that this could be an issue too) But nothing seems to solve my issue.

I guess I have to reset my system again and see if this solves the issue? I'm so tired dealing with this issue since now several days, LOL. Oh, well it was worth a try and I truly appreciate that you tried to help out! Thank youuuuu.

You're most welcome. I'm sorry it didn't help though.

Please let us know your results from the system image, and if you notice it stop working again after installing or changing anything.

    Hey Brink!
I found a solution by accident, yay. As I said before I did have WIN7 orginal installed and I did an Upgrade with the Media Creation Tool to WIN10. The thing is I'm using multiple user accounts for different purpose (Gaming Profiles for different Gaming Platforms Origin, Steam and Battle and a private user profile (including Emails and online accounts profiles because I like to keep my things separate and structured, lol)

Obvioulsy I did set up my first main (Gaming) user profile before I upgraded and I added later in WIN10 the other two. I created this userprofile "Fleurlibelle" under WIN7. I wanted to do a backup of the files from my other profiles but I figured out that the Option "Open with" on those other user profiles do work and I can open the software with those profiles.

Well, I tried something out I deleted this corrupt profile under user and recreated it under WIN10 and now it works. I can associate the files with the right program again and me? I was like what, this was the solution? So easy?

I think something went wrong by Converting this one WIN7 additional profile because now since I recreated it under WIN10 and deleted the old user files. It works smooth as heck

Took me only days to figure it out and only by accident. So this could be also a reason why you don't have access to this feature to open files with a program of your choice
