In build 1803 some are experiencing a bug stopping them creating associations especially with txt style files. This was reported as being associated with one particular update.

Perhaps that applies in your case.

    No problem in build 1709.

Thank you. I was unaware of this. My desktop got a bad bug and I was forced to go all the way back to factory reset at Windows 8. I then upgraded to windows 10 and as it turns out, it is version 1803. At least now I know what to research further.

Well that was over 5 hours that went nowhere. Does anyone know if any of the reg files in the table will set .srt files back to their default file associations?

    Hello,

You can use the .reg file download from the post below to restore .srt back to default as unassociated.

Thank you so much, Brink. I gave up too soon apparently. I only made it to about page 23.

I have one more request please. Is there anything for .rar files from the WinRAR utility?
Yeah yeah, I know everyone praises 7-Zip, but I'm already familiar and comfortable with WinRAR.

WinRAR does support opening .rar files.

Did you want to unassociate .rar files as well?

Here's a .reg file that will unassociate .rar files for you.
