Hello @jonE, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Here you go. The .reg file below will unassociate .tmp files for you.

    Res file type association

I hate to ask, but would you have a registry file for the res file type association? I cannot open the Group Policy snap-in, for instance, because I am told that "You'll need a new app to open this res."

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Hello @Werewolf, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

It's no bother at all. The res file type has been added to option 2 for you to download.

Greetings Brink, you fixed a couple of years ago a problem that I had with other file extensions.
In win10, looking the explorer I do have some .BIN files which in "Type" filter says: Snex9x ROM instead of like BIN file. Is there some way to revert back this small sentence to original? If I use one of your registry editor instructions with BIN extension it doesn't fix my problem. Would appreciate your help a lot.
    Thanks.
P.D: I added a small screenshoot to show you what it appears in "Type file" filter.

Nevermind just fixed it up already.

Thank you for your assistance. I have run the registry file and restarted, but the issue unfortunately persists. I must note that I have run System File Checker, CHKDSK, DISM, and an anti-malware scan. System Restore is not an option as I have no restore points from before this issue occurred, which was a few months ago.

It was not my original intention to continue discussing this issue, as I thought that a registry file for res information would resolve it. Thank you for your assistance.

Another option would be to do a system restore using a restore point dated before the file type association was changed to undo it.
