Windows 10: Restore Default File Type Associations in Windows 10
Hello Mark, and welcome to Ten Forums.
Windows 10 has .pdf files associated to open with Microsoft Edge by default.
It sounds like you want to have .pdf files left unassociated to always see the open with dialog. If so, the .reg file below will do so.
I imported the values of Unassociate_pdf.reg After i reboot Windows I get the following message in the Actioncenter:
Translated this means. There is another app that have been set as standard app. There is a problem with the standard app for pdf-files. Microsoft Edge has been set again as standard app.
So Windows will reassociate Microsoft Edge automatically after a reboot when the register is changed. I don't know why it does this. The goal to show the popup again I need (this has to do with image's I will make to restore workstations). What step do I miss here to get it like the factory default again?
In the meantime, thank you again for your attention and participation.
I've added only the .pdf part from the tutorial below to stop the An app default was reset notification to the new .reg file below. Please download and merge it to see if that works better for you now.
This works better for me. I thank you for your fast assistance.
You're most welcome Mark. I'm glad it could help.
Could I trouble you to create one for .crypt9 files? I have accidentally set it to utorrent and notepad.
Hello samx, and welcome to Ten Forums.
It's no trouble at all. Here you go.
You're a lifesaver, much appreciated!
I'm new to windows 10.
I messed up my animated cursors so now they show a blank file rather than the cursor, any chance of adding a fix for .ani files?
How to Export and Import Custom Default App Associations for New Users in Windows 10

I'm used to working with quite a few libraries in W8.1 and would like file explorer in W10 to directly go to the libraries view if possible rather than the 'quick access' screen.
Can it be done ?
I unpinned a lot of the apps from the Start menu, now I'd like to restore it to it's installation default.
Any way to do this?
I'm currently using Windows 7 and am excited about the roll out of Windows 10.
I skipped Windows 8 because of all the bad reviews.
I will be keeping my Windows 7 computer (which is flawless) and buying a brand new machine with Windows 10 as soon...
Is it possible to choose a default location/folder to open when opening File Explorer from the task bar? Default is that it opens Quick access. I use OneDrive a lot, and would really like to see that I could set that to open that location....
