Windows 10: Default File Type Associations - Restore in Windows 10
Hello @edsager, and welcome to Ten Forums.
I have added png to the list. I hope it will help.
Thanks! I hope so too!
Again thank you,
You're most welcome. Please let us know how it went.
On first use, it worked for about 10%-15% of the image files.
But then I right-clicked on one of the PNG files that was still an icon and chose to have the Photos app be the default program to open this type of file, and voila! It worked!
Everything back to normal.
Great news edsager.
Thank you for the tutorial Shawn. I have a REQUEST. I mistakenly associated my UltraEdit text editor to DOS .CMD files, and when I double-click on a .CMD file, it opens UltraEdit instead of a DOS window. Can you create another .REG file to reset the association for DOS .CMD files? By the way, your .BAT registration file worked great. I also linked .BAT files to UltraEdit somehow.

Hello @BobLor, and welcome to Ten Forums.
No problem. CMD has been added to the list. I hope it helps as well.
I have a request for .json file type. I mistakenly open it with notepad + checked the always use this app to open .json files and now i want it back to default. Can you help me with this? Thx b4
Hello Dszx, and welcome to Ten Forums.
By default, .json is not listed.
What did you originally have as its default program? You could use "Open with" to set it back to that program instead.
Default Apps - Choose in Windows 10
Its default program = unknown application. So i want to change back it from notepad to unknown application again but from the "Open with" list there's no unknown application to set as default. So... yeah can u help me how to make .json file type to unknown app again as default? Thx for reply btw
How to Export and Import Custom Default App Associations for New Users in Windows 10
You can use the default application association-servicing commands to import, export, list, and remove the settings that specify which application opens a file...
I'm used to working with quite a few libraries in W8.1 and would like file explorer in W10 to directly go to the libraries view if possible rather than the 'quick access' screen.
Can it be done ?
I unpinned a lot of the apps from the Start menu, now I'd like to restore it to it's installation default.
Any way to do this?
I'm currently using Windows 7 and am excited about the roll out of Windows 10.
I skipped Windows 8 because of all the bad reviews.
I will be keeping my Windows 7 computer (which is flawless) and buying a brand new machine with Windows 10 as soon...
Is it possible to choose a default location/folder to open when opening File Explorer from the task bar? Default is that it opens Quick access. I use OneDrive a lot, and would really like to see that I could set that to open that location....
