    How to Clear Windows Update History in Windows 10

    Windows 10 is a service, which means that it is upgraded with periodic software updates.

    While you can manually check for updates, Windows 10 will automatically download and install updates when available, except on metered connections (where charges may apply). In that case, only those updates required to keep Windows running smoothing will automatically download.

    Microsoft releases important updates every second Tuesday once a month, known as Patch Tuesday. However, updates could be released at any time.

    An update history is available so you can view which updates were installed, and when. You can also uninstall updates if necessary.

    For more about update history, see:

    Sometimes you may need or want to clear your Windows Update history.

    This tutorial will show you how to clear the Windows Update history on your Windows 10 PC.

    The Windows Update history will automatically get cleared whenever a new feature update of Windows 10 is installed via Windows Update.

    EXAMPLE: Windows Update history before and after cleared

    Here's How:

    2 Click/tap on the Download button below to download the .bat file below for which version of Windows 10 you are currently running.

    3 Save the .bat file to your desktop.

    4 Unblock the .bat file.

    5 Run the .bat file.

    6 When prompted by UAC, click/tap on Yes to approve the .bat file to run as administrator.

    7 You will now see a command prompt flash and quickly open and close to clear your update history.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    It looks like with 20H1 Builds MS changed the way they save the update history, this tutorial does not work with any of the latest 20H1 builds. The windows update history keeps getting longer and there is no way to clear it other than doing a clean install.
    Does anybody know how to get rid of the windows update history on the latest insider build like 19536.1000 ?
    The history is many pages and shows months of feature updates and quality updates and everything else that was updated.
    The history is maintain even after an image backup and restore, while it is cleared on current public build 18363.535.
    See here the 1st page of updates from build 19536.1000.

    @fg2001gf10F Did you ever figure it out? I just updated to 20H1 by joining insider release preview and I cannot delete the update history.

    @hussam,

    The updated batch files at the beginning of the thread work fine with builds 19628.1 and 18363.836.
    Thanks @Brink & @throkr

    @hussam,
    No, I did not find out how they changed this, apparently nobody else figured it out yet.
    I cannot find any explanation anywhere.
    Oh, well. No biggie. Thank you for replying.

    Hi,
    I just upgraded to Win10 2004 - Build 19041.208 and used this tutorial which works perfectly.
    Sorry, it's in German; basically for the 2004 Edition you have to follow the steps described right at the beginning of the tutorial.

    Hope this helps ...
