I already copied all the files in that usb flash drive to something else. Whether its the cloud or another computer.

But right now I don't want to encrypt/decrypt them at the moment.

Do you have opinion on what I plan to do with my files? Originally, i was going to wipe everything on this usb... then transfer the files from my maybe compromised laptop to it... then keep it there for the time being. But because I can't do that... thinking about just transferring the maybe compromised files on the that maybe compromised laptop... to the cloud. So i dont need to use a usb stick. But doing this with safe mode and networking as oppose to normal. Thus i would log into my email to do this and after its done, use another windows clean computer and then immediately change my password.

    Opinion on that?
You could scan the laptop with an AV (ex: MBAM) to see if it's clean or not.

Afterwards, transfer the files to where you want.

I wouldn't use the USB anymore since it's showing signs of failure.

I scanned the laptop so many times already with kaspersky shows 0 threats at all.

Can you tell me how to get into safe mode with networking? I am either going to do that to transfer my files from the maybe compromised laptop to the cloud... or just go to the cloud and then upload the files to the cloud. Do you know if one could go on wifi when safe mode with networking?

Thanks. When I click on the wifi thing on bottom right, doesn't seem I could connect. So that means no wifi possible then on safe mode with networking right?

You should be able to connect to Wi-Fi while in Safe Mode with Networking.

Are you getting any error messages?

There is like a globe on the bottom right corner... where it normally shows when you are not connected to wifi. When you click on it, it gives wifi connections to connect to. Instead only airplane mode shows up there. No wifi connections. Does this mean I cannot go on wifi in safe mode with networking? I read lot of threads that said people cannot get on wifi with this.

I clicked on it and clicked back. Nothing showed. I don't believe one could then go on wifi right? Other people mention I cannot get on wifi... unless I use an ethernet cable. I can't do this because modem too far.

Also I am not going to bother with that as it doesn't seem to be possible.

Odd. I've always been able to use Wi-Fi in Safe Mode with Network.

I suppose it depends on if the driver or software has been loaded or not in Safe Mode.

I did the clean and clean all and got this message.

DiskPart has encountered an error: This request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. SEe the System event Log for more information.

Also I like to add... this flash drive is many years old and it has had issues. As sometimes it doesn't recognize it and sometimes I had to repair it. But just now when I connected it, it got message this flash drive has some issues to repair it... I click repair it but then it shows its write protected so cannot.

So this issue is related to the device being bad? Or could this be related to all these files being encrypted by axcrypt? Again I can't imagine this because the case because if people have files encrypted and don't remember the password to encrypt it, then the flash drive is useless? The thing that is confusing is I am pretty certain those files that I did delete, many of those were encrypted as well. I know this because i took a look and all the files that started with after a certain letter is deleted. But all those files that start with a letter and before that... those aren't deleted. So this isn't an axcrypt issue right?
When usb flash drives fail, they often fail in a readonly mode, so you can read from them but not write to them. If dispart clean comes up with error messages, drive is brown bread. Copy files, bin usb drive and buy a new one.
