Now, how come like what HP did, there are no specific drive letter for the Recovery Volume or partition? Also, what is the Disk 0 partition 2 one and what is it used for?

Hi. Will doing clean all, wipe the MBR as well? Does it do the same as a low level format? Just asking as I had a badly infected disk to wipe last year (nephew's) and read somewhere that general wiping with zeros wouldn't get any rootkits which could sit in the MBR. So did a low level format. Would cleanall do the same?

Good day to you! I guess I did something stupid. Oh well, always a learning experience.

I did a diskpart clean all on my external hard drive, but just decided to move the hard drive to another USB card on my PC. So, I stopped the process and restarted the computer. Now, I can't get windows to read the disk after restart. I restarted when the disk was unallocated. I hear that windows is trying by the sound, but then gives the other sound when you are ejecting it.

Is my hard drive done for? Is it time to smash it? I hope not.

just star the process again

Diskpart (in admin mode)

list disk
select disk nn
clean

convert gpt (or mbr depending on whether you want gpt or mbr hdd)

create partition primary
format quick fs=ntfs

exit

job done -- windows should see the hdd again.

Hey jimbo!!! Good day to you. Good to see you again! Thank you for your help.

I started the process again and I placed the drive into another USB port and it finally read it and I was able to see the disk again in disk management and diskpart. I didn't do the format, I just started the process of clean all again to secure erase.

Also, in disk management how come it changes the disk numbers of the drives? I had two drives that were there from the beginning but it changed when having this other drive placed in there. Is there a way to renumber them or should I even attempt it? I like having my two main drives being next to each other in number. Like disk 1 and disk 2 in stead of disk 1 and disk 3.
