    Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog in Windows 10

    Inline AutoComplete appends suggestions for what you type by automatically completing what you type inline with the closest match.

    This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off inline AutoComplete in File Explorer (Win+E) and Run dialog (Win+R) for your account in Windows 10.


    CONTENTS:
    • Option One: To Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog using Internet Options
    • Option Two: To Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog using a REG file

    Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog OPTION ONE Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog
    To Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog using Internet Options

    1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Internet Options icon.

    2. Click/tap on the Advanced tab. (see screenshot below)

    3. Check (on) or uncheck (off - default) Use inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog under the Browser section for what you want, and click/tap on OK.

    To Turn On or Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog using a REG file

    Note   Note
    The .reg files below will modify the string value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete

    Append Completion string value

    yes = On
    no = Off


    1. Do step 2 (on) or step 3 (off) below for what you would like to do.


     2. To Turn On Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

     3. To Turn Off Inline AutoComplete in File Explorer and Run Dialog

    NOTE: This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Turn_OFF_inline_AutoComplete_for_File_Explorer_and_Run_Dialog.reg

    download

    4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    6. When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    7. If you like, you can now delete the downloaded .reg file.

    Nice Shawn.
    It also (sometimes) picks stuff from IE11 favorites in the users folder.
    It's hit & miss though, but I guess it'll "learn", as long as one doesn't keep clearing the search cache with Ccleaner, or any other system cleaners.
