    No access for DISM

    Hi Shawn
Yes, see above all my updates. The reason I want to run DISM is that August 11, update KB4565351 failed to install, including manually downloaded from the catalog (tried it 5 times now). I have W10 single language, Home, x64 1909 build 18363.959.
I took ownership and gave myself and admin. full control of WinSXS and files, DISM still failed. I opened Windows Services in Task Scheduler and noted that auto maintenance had failed (access denied) code 0x80070005, ran it manually same results.

I don't believe WInSXS is corrupted because of the other DISM online results and SFC /scannow. Also installed other updates without problems.

I wonder if I should grant full permission to that folder (with Take Ownership). The "DISM access denied" issue has been reported in some forums.

I wouldn't recommend to change the owner or permissions of the folder to avoid possibly breaking it more.

You might create a new thread in the Windows Update forum area about KB4565351 failing to install to see if a solution may be found for it.

Be sure to include any error messages.

If I have windows 10 using let's say 5 months ago, can I implement this command as administrator and run it comfortably without affecting the system or affecting the stored files?

This would be the command that does the same job as disk cleaner or disk release

    Hi @Brink

I cannot run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup, tried PowerShell, Safe Mode, as administrator but always get Access Denied.
    I can analyze the ComponentStore:

    Access is denied.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

    Any ideas?

My PCs using version 1909 have been doing this for a few weeks. I was advised it is yet another Windows bug.

    Thanks @Steve C
I'll stop looking for resolution on this.
Did your PC installed update KB4565351 OK? If so what build do you have?

2 DISM commands not working in W10 1909

    Hi @OldMike65
It is difficult to find two identical systems/OS, some have issues with these 2 DISM commands others don't
My system is an Acer5 a515-54G with a finnicky Realtek sound card and I had to reset my OS (Restore app) to factory two weeks ago. I was able to get 17 Windows updates last week (see my previous post above) but 11 Aug KB4565351 failed and I was curious about the state of my component store (WinSxS), that is why I tried to run DISM. You have GPO with W10 2004 professional and I have 1909 build 18363.959 Home without GPO so we are really comparing apples and pears.

Yes that is correct Frank, just like I keep reading on different threads about all the issues with the 2004 build, where I have no issues on both my rigs, except for the optimize bug which MS knows about.
Both my rigs are also custom made by me. Hope you solve your issues Frank.

Have you considered doing a repair install on your Windows. You can do a Windows repair and keep all your installed apps if you follow Brinks tutorial to the letter. It would completely repair your current version of your Home version, keeping all your installed apps. If you have a image backup program like Macrium Reflect, just make a complete image backup 1st. You can use the free version of MR if you don't have it. Then using Brinks tutorial do your Windows repair install.
