    Hello kokobooster, :)

If you like, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this issue started to hopefully have it sort it for you.

Hi All: I share the pain of broken App Store and Win 10 Apps. Upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro went smoothly, and both the App Store and the Win 10 Apps worked before the dreaded Threshold 2 Update. I spent well over 4 hours with Windows Answers tech support. In fact one tech installed Tweaking repair app, which runs a Powershell script designed to re-register the store and fix the "broken" applications. MS finally threw up its hands and said "beat the %&#@ out of me." During theses support sessions, the Win 10 Pro MCT was installed, so going back to Win 7 Pro is not an option

I did a cursory search on the Store/App issue and find that it's not just me (yay). The common thread for broken Store and Apps is that it occurs in computers upgrading from an older OS and that no Powershell operation seems to fix the issue.

I am on Windows 10 Pro Version 1511, Build 10586.14 -- MS has pushed an update a day since Threshold 2 it seems.

All of my user-installed applications work perfectly. Windows 10 Cortana, Calendar, Groove Music and Movies and TV are operational. The remainder of the Win 10 apps flash once and then report an error. The App Store flashes but does not launch.

I guess the mantra is hurry up and wait for MS to determine whether a fix is possible. The ONLY option offered to me was a clean install, thus wiping my installed applications and setting along with any associated data. I can live with a "wounded" version of Win 10 Pro, but I would obviously prefer the OS to be fully functional.

On 10586.x, my Windows Store would show the updates but wouldn't do the automatic install and required me to click on install before it would install even though it saw the updates like it did previously with 10240 even though the settings has it on automatically install updates. I tried doing the command and basically store got uninstalled as this is what it says:

Any ideas how to fix this as it's the same error @kokobooster gets?

Just took another look and it appears it's referencing a directory that doesn't even exist...

@Almighty1 - This is the error that has a couple of repair gurus stymied. The typical Powershell script to re-register the store and allow installation of the Metro apps actually breaks them and deletes the installation folders.

    From Tweaking.com:
Due to a bug in the Windows 10 build 10586 the powershell command used to reinstall the apps and app store instead breaks them and deletes their install folders. Till Microsoft fixes this bug the repair app store is skipped for this version of Windows.

I've worked with Windows Answers support staff -- even the "senior technicians" -- no traction yet.

Exact problem as @Almighty1. The dead apps (including App Store) are showing up at the bottom of the "All apps List" like this:

Hello R2Mog, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I'm afraid that will usually need a repair install to fix without losing anything.

Thanks @kevlar42, didn't even realize the Powershell command was broken in 10586.x, guess I can add that to the broken regedit too.
Thanks @R2Mog, didn't notice that until I decided to check the All apps list and it lists Windows store there. Guess my other apps won't update until I get the Windows store fixed.

As I just upgraded to a SSD on 12/09/2015, I should still have Windows Store files in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps from my old 2.5" 7200RPM Western Digital Black Label 750GB HDD that I can just copy.

Windows System Restore did a Automatic Restore Point on December 12, 2015 which was before I tried to fix the store earlier today so I can probably restore that as well.

With those two, my Windows Store will probably work again except it won't automatically install updates without having to do a Windows in-place upgrade repair install.

Forgot to ask, if I deleted the folder for the store app in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Packages, will running the Store app recreate it or does it require reinstalling the Store app?

    Update:
Connected my old hard drive back to the system and copied the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder for Windows Store, system restore back to 12/12/2015, Windows Store works fine again and this time, it downloads and installs updates automatically.

Brink - Do you think an in-place upgrade will work now that I've installed release 1511 (the Nov update)? Apparently Microsoft is aware of this bug so maybe I will wait until they fix it. I downloaded Fixwin 10 and when you click on the fix button for "Windows store apps not opening. Re-register all apps" (which basically executes the Powershell command that started this whole mess in the first place) you get this message:

    R2Mog, :)

Yes, a repair install will repair the apps without losing anything. You'll just need to be sure to use installation media that's for the same build as you currently have installed.
