Generate System Diagnostics Report in Windows 10

    Hello KCR,

    Thanks for the response. I can get the your top screen showing the "Collecting Data for 60 seconds" but it never stops even after 20 minutes. I can't get your second screen though I can get it on my laptop computer. The issue here deals with a new desktop I built a little over a month ago.
    Attached are two screen shots of the views I see when running the tool. The first is what displays as a default "line" display. The other is what I get when selecting "report" from the drop down window. Neither shows the "basic system checks"
    I was looking for.

    I tried the "perfmon /report" and it displays collecting data for 60 seconds but never quits.

    21H1 version. i7 8700K 16GB RAM..

    Edit/update. If I just enter "perfmon" it brings up Performance Monitor and I can access and view reports. But accessing "perfmon /report" from Win+R does not collect data and display the report, it just collects data.

    Hmm, I'm seeing the same thing in build 21390.

    What happens if click "View Log Data". . . do you see. . .

    If you do, can you change that to. . . Current activity, Apply - OK ?

    I can get 5 out of your 6 screens. On the 5th screen, when I click on view, "Report" is slightly grayed out and doesn't do anything when I click on it. The screens above that one are fully functional as you describe.

    Looking for a little help on the Diagnostic Report.

    In the warning section, this is the message:
    Missing Events in Event Log
    Investigate why 11% (8,264) events were lost during data collection. The settings for Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) maximum buffers and buffer size may not be optimal depending on which data sets are being collected.

    I read the About Event Tracing document from MS Docs, and after reading it three times and checking other links within the page, here's what I saw:

    I don't know if the Missing Events message is important, if I can do anything about it, or if I should just ignore it. I certainly don't know where to view the buffers nor what they should be.

    Any guidance sure would be welcomed...

    In an attempt to search for answers on the above post, I ended up down a rabbit hole that led me to a more important question. I'm hoping Sean, or someone who is knowledgeable in System Diagnostics can help me understand what I'm seeing.

    If I run System Diagnostics after a cold boot... after Resource Monitor shows that everything has settled down... I get a warning from SD saying: "The average disk queue length is 2. The disk may be at its maximum transfer capacity due to throughput and disk seeks".

    If I run System Diagnostics shortly after that (3-4 minutes), There is no warning. The report says "No problems found on this computer."

    I've repeated the process 3 different times with the same results. So which results are right? Do I have an issue with disk queue length or not? Is SD a reliable tool? Am I using it wrong?

    I appreciate any ideas....

    Hello @Silky,

    It may well be that the OS needs to settle down FIRST in order to be able to collect the current [ correct ] results. If it has NOT settled down, this MAY give the error because there are still Services or Processes etc [ AV, System Files, Scheduled Tasks etc ] STILL loading.

    Just a logical guess.

    I must admit, I have NEVER tried it from Cold Boot. I can NOT test it at the moment, but I will try and test it later and report the results.
