What do you do about activation for virtual installs? Im using an ISO I made from the ESD file after the initial upgrade (currently using retail box on main pc).
The straight answer is it is not legal to have a single machine license installed on more than one machine, even if one is virtual.

Or just use the insider version in vm

Well the purpose of installing 10 in vm is to test out insider. Is there a place I can download the ISO from?

Join the insiders, download the media creation tool and chose the for another PC and ISO option. Use that to install in VMware. If it isn't the latest, use the fast ring and it will update to the latest build.

I'm downloading a 10pro ISO now to see what version it is for you.

Had to make a run. I'm back and installed VMware. I'm installing w10 now and will tell you the version when it finishes installing.

Edit: It was version 240 RTM. I had to download the insider app and choose to be an insider.

Now that I went back and installed VMware and loaded w10 I think you are fine. Use the ISO you have, install to a vm then set windows update to the insider program.

Unless someone else knows different, it wont work any other way. Seems you have to have been an insider prior to RTM to continue, and adding a vm is fine. It activates and allows to join the insider, without effecting the primary install from what I see.

547 won't update for me and I think its because 10 isn't activated in vmware.
