Windows 10 Pro version 22H2 0n one desktop and running Window 11 Pro 22H2 on unsupported desktop

Hello Shawn mate I don't know if this is the right tutorial but currently I am using this laptop with 7 and after trying 10 - I clean installed 7 because the 10 would not activate but after trying it on a desktop just am not liking it at this moment in time, so do not want it on this machine full stop. (I have actually clean installed the desktop back to 7 on a new drive since)

Now my problem is that due to poor bandwidth when at work (plus it is an expensive prepaid broadband ) I try to update my 7 as there loads to download - at home with a decent broadband, and after picking the eyes out of them and going back to install them I get this message as per attachment. I cannot find any way of installing necessary 7 updates without this telling me to "Get started". I am obviously getting this after downloading a 10 something or other unwittingly.

Can you advise me what to do please??

Sorry even the pic will not attach I have tried doing it the 10 way and even it is really a backward step why can't I just attach it??

    Hello
is it possible to include an option to advise of updates but allow the user to choose which to install, I had updates disabled but notify with the regfile in this tutorial, but accidentally chose to perform updates assuming I could chose which ones.

I'm afraid there's not an option to pick and choose which updates to install other than hidding the ones you don't want.

that's a pity, there used to be something like this in a previous OS, or so I remember...

Yep, in previous Windows you could select which available updates to install. In Windows 10, Microsoft elected to always automatically install updates to make sure Windows stays updated and patched to keep more secure. This was done since a lot of folks didn't do it on their own, and causing a lot of infected zombie computers out there.

The bad apples spoiled it for the rest of us.

    Thanks
Just restored my PC from my acronis backup, looks perfect, had issues with user profile, trying to fix it messed things up a bit ( posted in different section ) so hopefully this backup will mend a lot of the problems....so will do the same before updating Windows each time, self preservation LOL
    thanks for the reply

Is there a way to prevent a specific driver update, but update everything else automatically?

Case in point: I have a LifeCam Studio which is Microsoft's top of the line webcam. The designated Windows 8.1 driver on Microsoft download site does not work at all for Windows 8.1 computers since 3 years or so (Google this incredulous issue) whereas the Windows 7 driver does work (with some glitches) for Windows 8.1 computers. Naturally, I use the Windows 7 driver for my Windows 8.1 computer and simply ignore the 'update driver' notifications.

I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 10 and I definitely want to enable the convenient automatic updates, but I am worried about the webcam, hence my question in the first line of this posting. I guess I am looking for a permanent (not temporary) exception within the automatic updates. Can it be done?

    Hello FrozenCursor, :)

If you're able to, upgrading to Windows 10 Pro will give you more flexibility for this.

You could use the tutorial below to disable automatic device driver installation.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...dows-10-a.html

You can also hide updates if it still shows up in Windows Update. Have the Windows 10 Pro edition will make this easier by being able to disable automatic update easier.
